Long Awaited Supermarket Opens Today for Sun City Residents

Residents have waited for over a decade for todays opening of a supermarket just out side of the gates of the community at Washington & Varner Street.  After many failed attempts to secure a supermarket for this location, the developer was finally able to secure Stater Brothers as an anchor store for the new shopping center. Stater Brothers calls this a blue ribbon store, as it is a bit more upscale than the La Quinta store.

Walgreen's will soon open in the same center.  Rite Aid opening will follow shortly across the street. A buzz of excitement filled the air as the parking lot was full the entire day. This store will service over 10,000 homes on the east side of the 10 FWY as well as the growing numbers of residents in Sky Valley. Washington Street is the commuter road to East Thousand Palms as well as Sky Valley.
